The kingdom of Rumpus was once ruled by King Felix, a compassionate and visionary leader who restructured the kingdom’s laws with the wisdom of children in mind. He eventually abdicated in favor of his son, King Dylan, who continued his father’s fair rule. However, the kingdom’s stability is challenged when Dylan’s only heir, Princess Caitlin, defies tradition by demanding the right to rule despite being a woman.
Caitlin, determined to prove herself, insists on undergoing “the coming,” a rite of passage traditionally reserved for boys, which tests courage and leadership. Despite King Dylan’s protests, she embarks on this dangerous journey, accompanied by her friend and narrator, Katherine, and a talking badger named Bryce.
